Thats right.
Now is the time ladies and gentlemen. Our world is growing closer (or shrinking depending on your viewpoint) together. Each day we move closer towards a global community instead of a planet full of nations. Thats right, not only what we do effects our neighbors and countrymen, it also effects our brothers and sisters around the world. You want proof, merely look at flight restrictions and entry requirements now imposed due to the few crazies who thought they could "get away with it".
Never before has it been cheaper or easier to see our very own world. For years I've been referring to Europe alone as a "Disneyworld for the big kids" and although that might be offensive to those folks from that massive continent, its a great way to describe it.
And its not just Europe. I have very good friends who have seen Asia on a teachers salary. That is to say, you can too. It might require the volunteering of tangible things deemed necessary for a "comfortable" life, but believe me, it can be done. And its not just those who work with me in Japan. Americans and Europeans as well are quickly coming to the day in age where crossing a state line or two for our grandparents is, and should be, equivalent to seeing another culture (or two) for us. It makes us better, all of us.
It is here, and it is now.
In fact, if you were to read the top ten most "Livable Cities" according to the International Herald Tribune, you would find only one of them from the United States.....and it's not even on the mainland. Seriously, check it out.
Want another sign that we, as a global community, are coming together. The new Australian PM, a mister Kevin Rudd, upon being elected, made it his first order of business to ratify the Kyoto protocol. The Kyoto protocol is our leading nations first attempt to limit the un-natural effect we, as a global community, have on the planet caused by our own"Greenhouse gases". This leaves only good old USA, as the sole industrialized nation to have abstained from signing this accord.
Whether or not your political viewpoint acquiesces with this environmental issue, the signs that we are on the threshold of significant political, religious and social (USA), cultural (Japan) and global (all of us, including those who cant read english) change is within our immediate future.
And that future is now folks. All bullshit set aside, if you want to make it in our world, in the times to come. You need to continuously learn something new, try and understand ideas that seem forlorn to what you grew up comfortable with, believe and appreciate the fact that 99.9% of the people on this plant love their children and want a better life for them without the adverse effect on others.
It is how we grow personally, socially and globally.
-This is not a rant, this is a personal philosophy.
-No, this is not a change in theme for this blog, just an expression.
- Yes, I am drinking wine on a cold winter night.
-No, I am not drunk.
